There are several things that don't make any sense in United States.
The first and very most stupid one is a "Secured Credit Card"
So, for the people who are new to the country don't have credit history, so banks say to deposit some amount and take a credit card. It totally acts as a regular credit card. There will be interest and also some amount of annual fee.
The weird thing is banks hold 10% of the amount, and lets us use the remaining. How sick is it to rotate our own money and pay an annual fee to the banks (letting them to keep 10% of that). And if we need to close the account we need to pay the total amount that we opened the account with, and after 15days banks send us a check.
Catch is, say after an year if you check your so-called credit history, it will be very thin that you can't get any credit for at least 1000 bucks.
Thumbs down to US Banks... they totally suck.
